In 2013, the Esquire Channel, now Vice Television, aired Boundless. An amazing docu-series chronicling the trials and tribulations of endurance racers Simon Donato and Paul “Turbo” Trebilcock as they compete in extreme and often grueling events around the globe.
Episodes, each an emotional rollercoaster, took you alongside as they tested their limits in days-long ultra marathons, paddle boarding in the Pacific, bike races in the canyons of Utah, and an extraordinary run through Iceland.
In the late 70’s, the opening line for ABC’s Wide World of Sports was:
“Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sport. The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat.”
Forget the skier of the opening montage, Boundless brings a deeper meaning to these words.
Having been off the air for a few years, you can now catch all three seasons of this incredible show as part of your Amazon Prime subscription. I highly recommend you watch it. You’ll bear witness to the physical pain and psychological trials, the resolution to push forward through it all. You will laugh. You will cry. You will feel victorious. You will ache.
In 2016, Amazon dished out big money to lure Top Gear’s top talent over. Before 2018 is over, I’d like to hear that Simon and Paul will be taking us on new adventures next year.
