Happy 20th Stone Brewing Company

12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout

I remember the time I had my first sip of craft beer from Stone Brewing Company like it was yesterday.  It was a number of years ago after a 16″ softball victory.  The setting was Brixie’s, which is just around the corner from the fields we played on in LaGrange Park.  When perusing the list of libations I was drawn to Stone both for their devious gargoyle insignia and the name of their brew, Arrogant Bastard.  For those reasons alone I was destined to order a pint.  It was a glorious change of pace & depth of flavor on my palate and one of the reasons for my departure from the macro chugging lifestyle.  Coincidentally Brixie’s will be our happy hour destination this evening, to toast Page Of Man’s 1 year old birthday.  But that is not what we’re here to discuss today…

Earlier this week I cracked open a commemorative look back to 8 years ago – 20th Anniversary Encore Series:  12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal StoutDuring Stone’s 12th anniversary year, there was a hop shortage but they took adversity head on and got creative.  By supplementing bitter chocolate to the mix, it help offset the sweetness of the malt.  This bomber pours a full bodied, onyx (as listed on their web site) color with a thick, beige head.  Not my favorite stout (I’m quite partial to Xocoveza Mocha Stout) from these guys but tasty nonetheless and I commend them for their resourcefulness.  Let’s raise our glasses to Stone’s beers and 20 years.

Cheers!
