Suntory has been on a roll the last couple of years. After their 2013 Yamazaki Sherry Cask was named the Whiskey of the year by the whiskey Guru himself Jim Murray, they’re back in 2016 with a new Sherry Cask release. Aged in casks found in Northern Spain, Suntory’s Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo oversees everything from the sourcing of the casks to the charring of the barrels.
This meticulous dedication results in a complex, yet smooth whiskey with sweet and sour notes of chocolate and hazelnuts. Coming in at about $300, it’s definitely not a your inexpensive mixing whiskey, but something to be savored (and shared) for those special occasions.
Only 5,000 bottles will be available so grab a bottle when you can.
