There were some pretty rad smartphones unveiled a few weeks back at Mobile World Congress. New designs, faster processors and even phones with modular designs. But one of the more interesting phones unveiled was the Caterpillar S60 Smartphone. Yes the Peoria based company known more for making large earth movers also makes phones.
From the outside the Android powered Cat S60 seems to be nothing more than a big rough and tumble phone that can withstand drops and spills. But a closer look reveals a first for smartphones, and that’s an integrated Flir thermal camera. Why a thermal camera in a smartphone? Well if you’re contractor, a first responder, in the military or even a paranormal investigator, a Flir camera becomes an indispensable tool of the trade.
The specs of the phone include a Snapdragon 617 processor, 32gb of memory with 3gb of ram and a SD card slot. A special 4.7 HD screen allows users to operate the device with wet hands and with gloves. Besides the Flir Thermal camera there’s a regular 13MP shooter with a 5mp front facing camera and 3800 mAh battery that gives you pretty decent battery life.
The S60 will be available later this year for around $600. Check out the video below from Androidpolice:
