SpaceX’s Crew Dragon launched Saturday with a space-suited dummy aboard named Ripley. A fitting name and a nod to the baddest female in the universe, and she will be performing tests to see if these rocket rides will be fit for humans. SpaceX will start the first crewed mission in July. If all goes well, this may end the dependence on getting our astronauts to the space station via Russian rocket-pool.
“Looking forward to meeting her in person in a couple days,” Anne McClain, an astronaut on the International Space Station, tweeted in response to SpaceX founder Elon Musk’s tweet of Ripley.
