Who doesn’t love discovering a new tavern that’s walking/bike riding distance from home?!? The POM staff recently enjoyed a happy hour (or three!) at The Berwyn Tap Room. As we walked in the door, we were greeted with a smile, handshake and some fresh popcorn by bartender and part owner, Vinny. This cordial natured attitude goes a long way in our book.
Built into the back portion of your standard bungalow, this is not one of those old dark taverns your grandpa or old man told you stories of. This is a modern intimate pub with atmosphere, class and just a touch of 80’s nostalgia. Vinny kept the rounds coming with a smile as the POM staff sampled through its nice selection of taps. There were 8 craft brew handles and 30+ other options available via bottle/can. But if craft ain’t your bag, do not fret my friend. Opposing the POM crew were some regulars at the other end of the bar, enjoying a few Lites, while not being prejudged.
By the time we moved onto bottled brews, the sun was setting and the lights came on – neon lights below the bar-top running the full length of the bar. The digital jukebox paused just long enough to let us hear the sweet sound of a Ms. Pac Man arcade beckoning for play in the far corner.
If you happen to be in the burbs and passing through Berwyn, make sure to add this neighborhood pub to your checklist. There’s no kitchen but if popcorn won’t stave your hunger, they maintain a stack of carry out menus from restaurants in the area which you can order and have delivered right to the bar – we ordered, and recommend, Anthony’s Pizza. All there is left to do is drop by and give this place a try…
