Community Supported Beer

Begyle Brewing Company is about as local as it gets.  It is a community supported brewery and if you don’t know what that means, it is time for you to take a trip up to the North Center neighborhood and find out.  My wife and I know first hand how cool and down to earth these guys are because we were there the night they opened their doors…

An unassuming doorway, stood before us just east of Damen and just north of Irving.  As we arrived they were moderately busy but inviting us with open arms as we toured and enjoyed ourselves.  Even though this brewery was a trek from Oak Park, we knew they were destined for something special as they treated us with class and were happy to explain the process of making beer in their modestly sized facility (at the time).  They are also one of the very few breweries that possesses a counter pressure growler filler.  This is a fancy machine that (makes R2-D2 jealous and) keeps your beer carbonated and fresher for much longer than your average fill.  But let us get back to today’s brew…

Begyle

Just as we acquired that fine evening a couple years back, I recently doubled down on another bomber of Begyle’s DIPA, Quagmire.  This boss of a brew weighs in at almost 10% ABV but is dangerously drinkable at around 70 IBUs.  A nice, almost sweet nose, this monster is definitely a Midwest style brew with plenty of hop presence but also containing a sturdy malt backbone.  So add Begyle Brewing Company to your list of breweries to visit.  And if you don’t feel like making the hike all the way to the north side, pop on over to Famous Liquors in Forest Park and they’ll do you right.

Cheers!
